Icon Tutorial

This tutorial will explain how to make this image transformation in Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop. Some basic knowledge is required. Also note that your end result will differ from mine depending on the image you chose as your base. This particular tutorial works best with images a little on the warmer side.
Before
After

1.

Duplicate your base and completely desaturate it. Set this layer to screen at 100%. If your base is already light, lower the opacity to whatever you think looks appropriate.
2.

Copy the image below this step and paste it as a new layer. Set this layer to exclusion at 100%.
3.

Go to Layers >> New Adjustment Layer >> Channel Mixer. Make sure the Monochrome box is not checked, then apply these settings:
Red: 112, 0, 0, 0
Green: 10, 94, 6, 0
Click OK and set this layer to saturation at 100%. Duplicate the layer.

4.

Go to Layers >> New Adjustment Layer >> Hue/Saturation. Apply these settings:
Master Saturation: 19
Yellows Saturation: -60
Greens Saturation: -100
Click OK.

5.

Merge all of your layers together, then duplicate the new image. Set the duplicated layer to soft light at 50%.

6.
You can leave the image as it is or add text, brushes, etc. I chose to leave mine alone.

Other icons made with this.
