Div Extras

You're probably a little bored with what the 'making a div' tutorial left you with, right? Here's where I'll explain a few extras that you can add to spiff it up. All these codes work for websites also!

Font

1. Copy and paste this code somewhere right below the div sections:

2. Under font-family:, place the name of the font that you'd like to use.

3. Replace the '#' after size: with the size you want your font to be. For regular text, it's good to keep it somewhere between 9-12.

4. The color: is pretty self-explanatory. Replace the '000' with the hex code of the color that you want your text.

5. After font-weight: put either normal, bold, underlined, or italic.

6. I'd personally keep the border: at 0px. You can experiment with the number and see if you like how it looks.

7. Set the text-transform: to either none, uppercase, or lowercase.

8. The line-height: is there to keep the lines of text from being to close and hard to read. You'll want to set that to a number about two pixels higher than the font size.

9. Lastly, you can change the letter-spacing:. It's good to keep it at zero, but if you want the letters to be farther apart, set it to a higher number. If you want them to be more squished together, set it to a negative number.

Background and Scrollbar

1. Add this somewhere in your coding to change the background color and the scrollbar.

2. The background-color: is self-explanatory. Put in the hex code to the color you want the background to be there.

3. If you want an image in the background, copy the URL of your image into the parentheses after background-image:

4. The background-position: places the background where you want it to be. You can put it in the top right, top left, bottom left, bottom right, top center, bottom center, left, right, or center.

5. The background-repeat: is simple. Either set it to repeat or no-repeat.

6. The rest of the sections are for the scrollbar. Set the colors to whatever you wish. Experiment with putting different colors in different sections to see exactly how you're going to want it.

Bold, Italics, and Underlined

1. Insert this code to edit bold, italic, and underlined text:

2. For all three sections, set the color: to whatever you want the color of your text to be.
3. Under the section titled 'u', change the word COLOR under border-bottom to the color you want the underline to be. Change the '0' before 'px' to a number preferably between 1-3. You can either leave 'solid' the way it is or change it to dotted or dashed.

4. DO NOT mess with with the font-style: or font-weight: unless you want something completely different with the text, and you know what you're doing.

Links

1. Insert this code to change your links:

2. The first section edits what the links always look like. Follow the same sets that you did with editting regular fonts earlier.

3. The second section edits what the links look like when you roll over them. It's a good idea to keep all the attributes the same, except for the color. Changing sizes sometimes makes links hard to click because they jump to a weird area.
